In closing to my Dress for the Cause 2019 blog posts, I’d like to firstly acknowledge all of the extraordinary fundraising efforts that will go towards incredible breast cancer research. Our Dress for the Cause day was October 25th, 2019. It was amazing to see all of the activities bake sales, contests, and other events that were organized to raise money and awareness for such an important cause. This year, the TBCRU studentship recipients at Robarts Research Institute at Western University were happy to execute our Annual TBCRU Bake Sale on this day and raise money as well.

Our Bake Sale began at 9am. We had several baked goods and a raffle station. All were provided by generous donations from members of our research communities, friends and families, and other local organizations in London. As you can see in these photos, there were a lot of opportunities to be creative. Decorating the baked goods in pink or wrapping treats with the Breast Cancer Society logos. We are always thankful and appreciative of those that continue to provide our team with baked goods each year. We are lucky to have a few passionate bakers in our institute too!
Two new initiatives that we implemented this year was a raffle draw and a photo booth for people to take pictures at. Sharing how they are participating in our Dress for the Cause event on social media. The raffle was a tremendous success, for those who may not have been as interested in donating through baked goods could still participate by entering into the contests for the raffle. Our photo booth was also exciting, it allowed attendees to share the event on social media and draw more awareness of our location.
Following our event, our team was happy to announce that we had surpassed our fundraising goals, raising over 500 dollars towards breast cancer research! Another TBCRU recipient, Nathan Orlando, was instrumental in organizing the finances so that they could be added to our team’s online donation page. While this year’s event was a great success, we have even more ideas to improve our fundraising efforts for next year. We also look forward to participating in the Annual Mother’s Day Walk in May of 2020.
