Supported by your generous donations the Breast Cancer Society of Canada has been able to continue our commitment to the Translational Breast Cancer Research Unit at the London Health Sciences Centre. The program provides funding to translational research focused on the understanding, prevention, tracking and treatment of breast cancer. BCSC would like to extend our congratulations to this years 14 scholarship recipients. Below is the message announcing the 2019-2020 scholarship recipients from Alison Allan, Senior Oncology Scientist and Director of the Pamela Greenaway-Kohlmeier Translational Breast Cancer Research Unit funded by the Breast Cancer Society of Canada and part of the London Regional Cancer Program at the London Health Sciences Centre.
Dear Colleagues:
I am delighted to announce 14 new graduate student and postdoctoral scholarships/fellowships at Western University for the 2019-2020 academic year. These awards are supported by the Breast Cancer Society of Canada’s very generous commitment to the Pamela Greenaway-Kohlmeier Translational Breast Cancer Research Unit (TBCRU) at London Health Sciences Centre’s London Regional Cancer Program (LRCP).
Trainees compete annually for these awards. Their applications are assessed by a scientific review committee based on the quality and translational potential of their project, their academic record, and the strength of their mentor/training environment. Three MSc students, ten PhD students and 1 postdoctoral fellow were selected for awards this year. These trainees are enrolled in five different departments/programs at Western (Anatomy & Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Medical Biophysics, and Pathology & Laboratory Medicine) and are from two Western Faculties (Schulich and Engineering). The trainees are working in research laboratories located at LRCP, St. Joseph’s Health Care London, Robarts, and Western.
Their translational research projects are broadly focused on the understanding, prevention, tracking and/or treatment of metastatic breast cancer, the most deadly aspect of breast cancer. Photos of these trainees and descriptions of their projects can be found at this link.
You can read more about the TBCRU and its history here.
Over the coming year, we encourage you to support the TBCRU Traineeship Program through Breast Cancer Society of Canada community events including Dress for the Cause and the Mother’s Day Walk. You can also read about our students and their research progress throughout the year on the BCSC website
Congratulations to our trainees and best wishes to them as they contribute to breast cancer research in London!
