Supported by your generous donations the Breast Cancer Society of Canada has been able to continue our commitment to the Translational Breast Cancer Research Unit at the London Health Sciences Centre. The program provides funding to translational research focused on the understanding, prevention, tracking and treatment of breast cancer. BCSC would like to extend our congratulations to this years 15 scholarship recipients. Below is the message announcing the 2020-2021 scholarship recipients from Alison Allan, Senior Oncology Scientist and Director of the Pamela Greenaway-Kohlmeier Translational Breast Cancer Research Unit funded by the Breast Cancer Society of Canada and part of the London Regional Cancer Program at the London Health Sciences Centre.
Congratulations to the New Breast Cancer Research Scholarship/Fellowship Awardees in London
I am delighted to announce 15 new graduate student and postdoctoral scholarships/ fellowships at Western University for the 2020-2021 academic year. These awards are supported by the Breast Cancer Society of Canada’s very generous commitment to the Pamela Greenaway-Kohlmeier Translational Breast Cancer Research Unit (TBCRU) at London Health Sciences Centre’s London Regional Cancer Program (LRCP).
Trainees compete annually for these awards. Their applications are assessed by a scientific review committee based on the quality and translational potential of their project, their academic record, and the strength of their mentor/training environment. Seven MSc students, seven PhD students and one postdoctoral fellow were selected for awards this year. These trainees are enrolled in four different academic departments/programs at Western including Anatomy & Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Medical Biophysics, and Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. The trainees are working in research laboratories located at the London Health Sciences Centre, Robarts, and Western.
Their translational research projects are broadly focused on the understanding, prevention, tracking and/or treatment of metastatic breast cancer, the deadliest aspect of breast cancer. Photos of these trainees and descriptions of their projects can be found on the TBCRU website.
Over the coming year, we encourage you to support the TBCRU Traineeship Program through Breast Cancer Society of Canada community events including Dress for the Cause and the Mother’s Day Walk. You can also read about our students and their research progress throughout the year via their blog postings on the BCSC website.
Congratulations to our trainees and best wishes to them as they contribute to breast cancer research in London!
